One Year After the Passing of Aurelio Martínez: Honoring His Life, His Music, and His Legacy
Aurelio*Fest 26 is a spiritual, cultural, and musical festival that honors the life and legacy of Aurelio Martinez, a legendary Garífuna musician, composer, activist, and leader, who tragically passed away in the Roatán plane crash on March 17, 2025.
The festival will commemorate the first anniversary of his passing (cabo de año / year’s end) and will feature a diverse program of cultural, musical, and community activities, including conferences, concerts, art exhibitions, and a traditional crafts market, among others.
The event will take place from March 17 to 21, 2026, at Hotel Partenon Beach, in La Ceiba, Honduras.
During these days, we will honor Aurelio as a member of our family, a friend, an artist, an activist, and a leader, paying tribute to the life and legacy he so profoundly embodied.
At the same time, this commemoration seeks to foster a collective and intergenerational dynamic that preserves and promotes his work, ensuring that his example, his music, and his struggle continue to inspire future generations.
